J.K. Simmons on director wife giving him no lines: ‘Just like at home’
Working with your spouse might sound like asking for trouble, but J.K. Simmons says showing up to his wife’s movie set felt natural.
“My standard joke is, ‘Just like at home, I do as directed,’ ” Simmons tells The Post of working with Michelle Schumacher, his wife of 22 years.
Simmons, 64, stars in the new film “I’m Not Here,” which Schumacher directed, produced, edited and co-wrote.
“Honestly, I would come home exhausted and get ready for the next day,” says Schumacher, 52.
“So for about a month, I don’t think we talked to each other, except time on set.”
“I’m Not Here,” opening in theaters and available on demand Friday, features Simmons as an aging alcoholic named Steve, reflecting on the struggles and trauma of his life and how they made him the isolated soul he is now.
